A film look can only be consistent when the plugin knows what image it receives and what image it should return. MacunFilm places input and output profiles around its internal film pipeline so the creative tools respond to a predictable image rather than an unidentified gamma curve.

Describe the source

Choose the profile that matches the footage entering the MacunFilm node. Log camera material remains different from a display-ready Rec.709 image, even when both appear usable on screen.

Define the hand-off

Set the output profile for the next stage of the grade. This keeps the node useful inside a larger Resolve tree instead of forcing every project into one fixed display transform.

Keep effects consistent

Film compression, emulation, grain, halation and bloom operate inside the managed path. Their response therefore follows the image state rather than a single hard-coded camera assumption.

A practical way to use it

  1. Confirm the color space and gamma of the image immediately before the MacunFilm node.
  2. Set the matching Input Profile and choose the profile required after the node.
  3. Build the negative, print and optical response only after the transform is correct.
  4. Use scopes to confirm that an identity conversion does not alter an already matching signal.

Restraint matters

What to avoid

Do not choose a profile by appearance alone. A wrong input may look contrasty or saturated but it changes where every later film control finds shadows, skin and highlights. Also avoid applying the same camera-to-display transform twice in Resolve and in the plugin.
